Certified Medical Assistant/Licensed Practical Nurse (CMA/LPN)

Education

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma.
  • Medical Assistant Certification OR Diploma in Practical Nursing and licensed through the Indiana State Board of Nursing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review provider schedule; ensure all related reports, labs, and all relevant information is available in patient’s electronic medical record (EMR) prior to their appointment;
  • Escort patients to exam rooms, interview patients to determine chief complaint and history, measure vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and document all information in patient’s EMR;
  • Assist provider in exam room;
  • Perform various nursing duties under supervision of provider;
  • Prepare patients for examinations and performs routine screening tests;
  • Phlebotomy and collection of other lab specimens;
  • Provide patient education with regard to medications, management of diseased, home treatments, and special diets;
  • Communicate instructions to patients as instructed by provider;
  • Sanitize and prepare exam room for next patient;
  • Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, and prepare sterilization as required;
  • Triage and process messages from patients and front office staff to providers;
  • Take telephone messages and provide feedback and answers to patients and pharmacies; update Nursing Communication Board accordingly;
  • Maintain all logs and required checks (i.e. refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, cold sterilization fluid change, etc.);
  • All other duties as assigned by provider, Site Manager, Clinical Director, or Medical Director.

Knowledge/ Abilities

  • One (1) year Medical Assistant or LPN experience in clinic setting is preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and diagnosis
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety rules and procedures and HIPAA regulations
  • Ability to demonstrate a professional manner and adhere to strict confidentiality of information and records in scope of responsibilities
  • Ability to perform advanced computer operations using electronic medical records, various websites, and email
  • Ability to perform phlebotomy and administer injections
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships and provide excellent customer service
  • Ability to communicate effectively with providers, patients, and staff
  • Ability to plan and organize to ensure timely patient flow and demonstrate excellent time management skills

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds to waist height.
  • Must have sufficient manual dexterity in order to safely perform various skills and techniques.
  • Must have visual and auditory acuity to assist in patient observation and intake.
